Constant Kernel Panics when launching DVD Player???
anyone else getting these? i just burned a dvd using toast, and mounted it. i used finder to find "DVD PLAYER." i clicked it, kernel panic.

the other day, using parallels i had windows accessing a dvd. I turned DVD drive access off in parallels, and mounted the dvd in osx, opened DVD player again, kernel panic. specs in sig, running 10.5.1

    here is my apple report:

    Have you solved problem?
    Hi,

I have the same problem on a similarly configured MacBook. Log error message is almost identical. I wondered if you'd been able to find out what the problem was and solve it.

no fix here. apple is well aware of the issue according to their emails.

i sold my macbook. I play dvds all the time, and am real bummed about having to constantly restart after using parallels.

ill try a new pro when it comes out, maybe its model specific, i hope.

I'm having the same problem. It really sucks. I got off the phone with Apple Care and they had no clue what to do. Sounds like we're on our own. That is very disappointing.

    APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!

My machine was only 25 days old and I finally after showing them on repeated visits repeated kernel panics talked them into giving me a new machine. I'm happy because it was a processor bump and more RAm and bigger HD. BUT guess what same identical problem. Is that insane? Front Row>DVD>Kernel Panic every time. Now What do I take bake my 5 day old notebook and say hey the problem still isn't fixed? I guess its a "Hurry up and wait" situation for the firmware update. Until then I'm sending every report to apple and urge everyone thats having this problem to do the same. I have 2X2B sticks of Crucial memory in there and that seems to be the problem but I don't think its the RAM, honestly with all the complaints I think its the video card. Regardless I hope Apple fixes it soon.

If you are getting the KP's with the factory RAM, then it probably is not the RAM.

If you can play DVD's with the factory RAM and get the KP's only with the Crucial memory in place - it most definitely is the RAM. If you haven't tried this you need to, just to verify it's not the new memory.

In the latter case it's time to do some experimenting by using only one of the Crucial sticks at a time to find out which one is causing the KP and get it replaced by Crucial.

This experimenting can be done in a relatively short time frame vs waiting possibly for weeks for a fix that never comes if it is the RAM. "Thinking" it is not the RAM has done nothing to validate the theory. If it occurs with the original RAM and with either of the Crucial sticks one at a time - now you pretty much know.

Would also recommend running the hardware tests.
