Little to no sound while playing DVDs

The other day I was watching some Star Wars just fine. Last night, I want to watch a burnt DVD, and the sound is extremely quiet. It's still there, but I have to crank up the volume to hear anything.

To see if it was just the disk, I try the same SW disk, and let it play from where it left off. I get some sound effects, but they're quiet as well, and most of the sounds just plain are not there (Such as voices).

To see if it was just DVD Player, I tried it in VLC as well, with the same problem, on both disks. And just now, I tried playing a couple of self-made movies in QuickTime, and they play just fine.

This leads me to guess that maybe something has messed with the DVD decoder on the system, though as I have not updated since 10.4.8, and nothing has been updated in at least a month, I can see nothing that may have changed it.

Does anybody here know what may be causing this, or have any suggestions as to how to fix it?

EDIT: I just popped over to Apple's site, and tried watching the "Get a Mac" ads, and I have the same problem there, with the same problems on YouTube. (Quiet sound on YT, only some sounds on Apple's)

Anybody have any ideas? The last time I tried it out, even iTunes was messed up, which was fine the night before.
