When I bought my iBook it came with a program called Virex 7.5. I now have a MacBook. When I transferred all my files from the iBook to the MacBook using firewire I think this program was transferred too but when I try to use it I get an error message, "The Health Check component is not responding. Please restart or re-install." So my questions are:

1)did the MacBook come with this program or something similar?

2)if there isn't , how can i correct this problem?

First off, I will remind you that Macs usually run fine without having to waste system resources on virus applications.

Then, since you migrated to an Intel Mac, maybe you should buy a new Virex version that runs natively on Intel Macs, because sometimes PowerPC applications don't run smoothly on Intel, especially software from companies that make apps for other platforms, too.

I think Virex doesn't even exist as such anymore, and is now called McAfee VirusScan for Mac.

I agree with yogi, there's no need to waste resources and more money on a program that essentially doesn't do anything.

I feel kinda dumb now lol

When I was new to MF, before I had my mac, I bought VirusBarrier, and it runs in the backround. Being a PC owner all my life until my recent macbook, I really wanted the protection as I would be sharing alot of files between my mac and pcs around campus.

Virus barrier consumes almost no memory, and has yet to slow me down in anything I do (burning dvds, watching movies, dosbox, etc).

ClamXAV is a free virus scanner, however at the time I wanted something that scanned on its own in real time.
