IS there a way to make your buddy list transparent? so you can see the background through it?

You can't do that with iChat, but you can do that if you use AdiumX.

Any other way for what? Bumping your thread twice in ten minutes isn't going to change the fact that you can't do it in iChat.
If you want/need/would really, really like to have your buddy list transparent, then you can use AdiumX.
