i like flip4mac because of how well it integrates. And works within the browser.

I guess M$ will no longer update the Media Player for Mac... So the Flip4Mac will be a necessity sooner or later.

Yes, MS has totally backed off supporting WMP for OSX. Flip4Mac is doing a good job so far. Glad someone picked up the ball that MS dropped!

I'd say it already is - media player for mac would always lag, and playing wmv through your browser would always open the player and try to stream it, slowly - very annoying. Flip4mac is worlds better than media player ever was.

I'm certainly guilty of this myself...it's worse when you're helping someone...

I've been in other mac forums for years, and I kinda gotten in the habit of having sources. Not to mention it makes it easier for the people you're helping if you can link them to something; something reputable, or official.

Only problem is that you can't encode with flip4mac unless you pay, I am a poor college student who can't afford food better then soup.

I'm fairly new as well, but by PPC I think he means power pc, so it would run on an Intel Mac through Rosetta and the performance would not be as good

However, as stated, flip4mac is now in universal binary so will run as it should do .

Question on VLC. Stumbled upon this thread because unable to play .wmv on Dual Intel MacBook pro. Do have VLC. Opens and plays, but no sound. Verified not on MUTE. Critical beeps are audible. Had to force quit as well.

Questions:

1. How do I get sound to work?

2. Why did I have to force quit?

Thank you

flip4mac is "pay only" ?are there any free alternatives
flip4mac is free for playback. Pay features are related to the encoding capabilities I believe. Also note that Microsoft DRM videos don't play on a Mac.

I always have to move the volume control to the right on my tower. For some reason VLC has always starts at zero volume for me on that machine. I just did a quick test on my MBP and volume was on.

Normally you shouldn't have to force quit. VLC might take a few moment to quit sometimes.
