While trying to send a photo using I Photo by email I received this message

    Specs:
    27" i7 iMac, 24" iMac, 13" Macbook Air, iPhone 5 & 5S, iPod Nano 7th Gen, iPad 2 16GB WiFi, iPad 3
Is this the first time you are sending a photo through iPhoto? Does your default email account in Mac Mail work? Is there a default account configured?

To further Raz0r's point: iPhoto requires you to set up email accounts within the program if you want to use it to mail photos. It does not rely on the settings you used in configuring Mac Mail.

This was something that I got bitten by a while ago: for some reason I thought iPhoto would just invoke Mac Mail.

Ahh thanks for the clarification 'caribiner23', I haven't used that feature in iPhoto so I was just guessing..

Hmm...nothing in my iPhoto(v8.1.2) about setting up an email account. it just opens Mail with a new message window.

Member MightyGem is correct. Select a photo from your iPhoto library and then select "share". Selecting "share" automatically opens your Mac Mail account with a blank message ready to send. No need to setup mail.

Under iPhoto-> Preferences -> General you can choose to send pics from iPhoto via the Mac Mail program or via iPhoto itself.

If you choose the former, your Mac Mail will come up when you choose "Share."

If you choose the latter, you have to configure iPhoto's mail via iPhoto -> Preferences -> Accounts and set up your email accounts there.
