safari tabbed browsing?

Hi,
i saw on apples website that you can do tabbed browsing on safari (like in firefox), however i cant see how on my version of safari. Im confused as i just got my mac a few months ago, and ive got version 2 point something. i downloaded an update off apples site but it wouldnt install - said i didnt have the right computer or something, but then i read it was for OS 10.3... im rather confused.
can anyone help out?

Go to the Safari's preferences in the menu bar.
Click on "Tabs"
Click "Enable Tabbed Browsing"

Hit Command+T to make a new tab.
Command Click on a link to open it in a new tab.
