issue with volume on Quicktime

hi everyone,

this is my first post. i've been having audio issues with quicktime. here's the issues:

1. i have Seinfeld tv episodes with a .avi extension
2. when i play the video in the newest quicktime, the audio doesn't play
3. when i play the video in quicktime 7 or finder, it works fine
(all my other .avi video files work fine in the new quicktime)

does anyone know what may be causing this problem or how i can fix it? thanks!

Hello and welcome,

If everything else is working fine it's possible that the audio codec is not supported but this is unlikely. Does the audio (newest quicktime) just not work with anything or is it particularly with Seinfeld? Check the audio settings in Quicktime prefs.

You may want to have a look at one of the popular recommended plug-ins for Macs which help with streaming diverse AV files.

I use Flip4Mac by Telestream which is free and have had no problems streaming anything since install as it just sits in the background doing it's job. There are other plug-ins which other members may recommend.

thanks for the reply. i downloaded Flip4Mac and it did not resolve my problem. i also have 8 seasons of Two and A Half Men with .avi extensions, and they work fine in Quicktime. the thing that i find most bizzarre is that the audio works on Quicktime 7, but not the most recent Quicktime. i'll try playing around with the preferences also and see if i get anywhere. thanks again!

Apologies for the late response.

I found this that you could give a go.

The few apps I've found seem to have stability and install issues. Someone else on here may have more experience of them. The only plug-ins that I have for video related issues are Flip4 Mac and Div-X for Mac.
