macbook won't save installed things?

Hi, I recently tried installing two things on my macbookpro. The first thing, Silverlight, I downloaded online. I double clicked and installed it, it completed. However, afterwards my macbook doesn't seem to remember. When I go to Netflix, it still tells me I need to install it. I've done it like six times... I can't find it in any folders. Secondly, I tried to install the sims 3 generations. It installed, but I can't open it or play it. When I bring up my sims player from the original disk's link, it tells me I can't play without having my previous expansion pack's disc in. As if mine was never installed over that.
