How Do You Update Java With Lion?
I've been away from home for a month, and I know that there has been at least one Java update. I have Lion on both of my iMacs, and installed Java (don't remember exactly how, for I'm away from my Macs right now; was through some type of Java Control Panel already built into Lion).

My question is, how do I update Java with Lion? If I don't respond right away, it's because I will be travelling about 17 hours on a train to get home. Just had hip surgery, and can't sit on a plane.

Since I must have downloaded and installed Java on July 21, 2011, it looks like somehow this is the same version. Does that seem right?

I'm just looking for some clarification here. Java 1.4 is ancient (2002) and Apple wouldn't be packaging it for Lion. I'm not sure where you got that from. 1.6 on the other hand is the most recent version available for OS X (there's a developer preview of 1.7 available). If you're running 1.6, you're running one of (if not the) most current versions available.

The Java download, from the above link, will show as..

    mikeMBP: mike$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03-383-11A511)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02-383, mixed mode)

As you can see, it's easy to verify at the command line.

There's also /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app for those of us who don't like the CLI.

Yea, I use the 'java -version' command because it's easy to remember.. since it's the same on all platforms
