How to install Samsung Blu-Ray Player?Hi I recently purchased a Samsung SE-506 external blu ray drive and it states quite clearly it is Mac compatible. However I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install it. It installs perfectly in minutes on a PC but the Mac recognises there is a drive there, but the disc containing the software suite will not work at all.
I know this is quite vague but I was hoping somebody else has had a similar experience? The software suite is Powerlink Blu Ruy suite

While the Blu-ray drive may be compatible with a Mac - I'll lay 20 to 1 odds if that software came with the drive - that software is Windows only.
Open up Finder and browse the contents of the disc - you see a .exe on there and no .dmg - it's windows only.
I think Powerlink is what Cyberlink use to call one of their pieces of software - for sure, they have never made anything for OS X.I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.
In the Windows world, most everything folks don't understand is called a virus.

Thanks for your reply, so basically is the drive useless even though its compatible? I can play on the drive as i downloaded a blu ray player for my iMac, but i wont be able to write on the drive? The software is basically the normal cyberlink power dvd blu ray suite?

As bobtomay stated the software which controls writing to the drive is likely Windows only. However, you should be able to play back any BR disks that you own from the Mac. Or you can load Windows on your Mac via virtual software (Parallels, Fusion) or with the Boot Camp assistant. Then you can install and use the Powerlink BR suite.

As far as I know - haven't kept up with it the last couple of years - Roxio is still about the only company making Blu-ray burning software for OS X - Toast.
Any of the regular OS X offerings should be able to burn standard CD/DVD discs on it.I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.

The drive is perfectly compatible with the Mac -- as a data drive.
There is NO blu-ray support in OS X. It can only work as a data drive unless you use third-party software.
Luckily for you, there is some nowadays:
VLC 2.0 goes live with new Mac UI, Blu-ray, pro video | Electronista
Briefly: Mac Blu-ray playback software, LIMBO coming to Mac | MacNN
Mac gets native Blu-ray movie playback through Macgo app | Electronista
