    Question Problem with games...
I don't really know if this is the right section to post this in, but it kinda makes sense as I just switched over to osx...

I just got a 15'' Macbook Pro running Lion and when I'm playing games (quake 3, sauerbraten/ etc) the cursor stays in the center of the screen and it's reeeally annoying... Has anyone had this problem? If so, do you know how to fix this problem? Thanks

    Welcome to the Mac Forums.

Which Quake 3 are you running? Quake III Arena for OS X? I don't know much about the Quake engine but it's similar to the Doom engine which runs real well using the PrBoom Application. The cursor is supposed to disappear when the engine starts and begins to render.

What kind of mouse are you using?

I'm using ioQuake, as that version still gets updates... but just about every 3rd party fullscreen app i have has this problem; XBMC, Cube 2: Sauerbraten and a couple others I can't think of right now... but I'm just using a wireless microsoft mouse made for mac (on lion)

Hmm, could be (as in "I don't know I'm guessing") that the driver for the MS mouse needs a bit of updating for Lion.

Try plugging in another mouse and disabling the MS driver temporarily just to see if that's the issue.

Well, the thing is, nothing about a driver even showed up at all... I just plugged the mouse in and it worked... and I've seen alot of people *****ing about the mouse coming up and being stuck in the center of the screen from just about every forum I've been to regarding games such as quake 3, world of padman, cube 2: sauerbraten, and even XBMC Dharma Stable... I've been looking around and I think the problem is that the macbook pro has two different graphic cards it switches between due to power management, and when it's using the low-power one, there's a lot of bugs relating to simple things (such as full screen apps) that hasn't been fixed yet... I've even noticed in iTunes during full screen while playing a movie sometimes the mouse won't go away and it causes the itunes menu bar to go crazy and flash on and off the screen every half second until you move the mouse... it especially does this when watching youtube videos full screen... I loove my new mac, and I think OSX Lion IS the most advanced OS yet, but (myself being a light programmer, realizing how complicated it is to get a program working 100% flawlessly,) it seems like it should still be considered beta, and I feel that Apple got a little bit ahead of their selves in trying to release 10.7 before it was completely ready. Again, this is the most amazing piece of hardware I've ever used, and OSX 10.7 is the most extraordinary OS I've got my hands on, but there ARE still some unavoidable bugs that will just take some time to fix... Final note; if I'm in a game and the cursor is stuck in the center of the screen, I can just quit out of the game about 6 or 7 times and it will eventually go away once it realizes that I'm using a resource intensive program.
