With 10.5 & 10.6 - I used Smart Mailboxes to have email from particular senders automatically go into those Mailboxes instead of my Inbox.

Now with Lion & Mail 5.0, the Smart Mailboxes (from what I can tell and per the Help file) only display mail that is "located in other mailboxes". Meaning they are all still sitting in my Inbox.

This is a biggie for me. I don't want some of this stuff in my Inbox - like Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, Audible and all of those other things we all have subscriptions to. Don't want to unsubscribe either.

I want them in their own separate mailbox so that I can take a look at them "at my leisure" or never if that's what I want to do without leaving 200 unread messages in my Inbox. Is there a mail app out there that will do this now? Or am I just missing something?

I think I found your solution. Smart Mailboxes.

You find an email from Netflix, for example. Click on the actual email address in the header and select Create Smart Mailbox. The window that opens gives you the option to add as many additional email addresses to that smart mailbox. You can right-click on the smart mailbox once it is created so as to rename it.

if not that how about a rule? I did that in SL and Leopard and Tiger. Made a mailbox and had the rule look for the address and move it to the new box.

Tom is correct, Smart Mailboxes leave a copy in the InBox. I did a rule and had it look for the Facebook address for notifications in FROM and told it to move it to a Facebook mailbox I made first.

Works and not a trace of the message in Inbox.

If you need any help yell! :D

Ahh, it does leave a copy in Inbox. That's dumb. Hmm...

You win again! ;)

Appreciate the help.

Figured it out after I booted back up into SL and had a look around for about 15 minutes. Dennis gets the prize - I forgot Rules...

What I was doing was creating Mailboxes - located "On My Mac". Then creating Rules in preferences to auto move incoming mail into those Mailboxes. It's been so long ago I made them along with my senility...

Smart Mailboxes will not do what I want, because those leave all your messages in the Inbox or whatever Mailbox you move them to. Those are more for keeping conversations in one place.

Mailboxes won't do it either without creating Rules.

My problem was I synced with MobileMe on the new MBA. It moved the rules over, but did not re-create all my Mailboxes. Since the Mailboxes did not exist, Mail decided to just delete the part of the rule that told it where to move the email. So even after I created the Mailboxes, they still didn't work. More work to do getting this new one setup since I'm not migrating my old Mac into this one.

That is what I have always done also with Mail and even Eudora back in the day. Glad you got it sorted!!!
