Has anyone had experience in using a time machine back up stored on an external hard drive to build a user profile on a machine set up with multiple profiles? I have a time machine back up from my iMac at home, and would like to use it if possible to create an identical user profile on a Macbook Pro without wiping clean what's there now. I share the Macbook with my wife, so if the back up wipes out what's already in the machine, my iMac is 14,000 miles away so the situation wouldn't be good.

Same question

I have the same question. I'm selling my MacBook Pro 2.16, and have everything backed up using Time Machine and an external hard drive. I want to use my Time Machine backup from my MBP to create a user profile on the family iMac. Can this be done without wiping out everyone else's profiles?

On a similar note, I was going to just reinstall my Time Machine back up to my spare Power Mac G5, but it can't migrate my MBP data from Snow Leopard to Leopard... Odd, but the iMac resolution above is my next best choice.

I could use some advice and direction on either/both options.

Thank you.
