I'm a relatively new Mac convert and looking for advice on Mac utilities. Can someone tell me which of the two 3rd party software programs provides a better system hygiene function:

Mackeeper
Clean My Mac

I'm looking for specific reasons why one over the other.

Thanks!

I don't believe I've seen either one of them recommended by long time users of OS X during the time I've been a member of this forum.

Most common recommendations will be:
Onyx
MainMenu

Yet another √ for OnyX.

For removing unwanted applications completely however - strongly recommended over just using Trash - then any one of AppCleaner, AppZapper or CleanApp (my pref) is desirable.

For freebies, Onyx, MainMenu, and IceClean are tops. The only payware utility I would recommend is TinkerTool System. It does most of what the freebies do, but does have a few tricks up its sleeve that they don't.

Onyx and IceClean are the only apps you will ever need and they are free.

I've been using IceClean....has been working fine, but how does it compare to the other two programs you mention. While not unhappy with IceClean, I'm always welcome to better options.

Another Onyx user here and it can be free but they do accept donations as well. If it works well for you...consider supporting the people that make it available. Much like this forum. If you find it useful...consider supporting the people who make it available.

By the way, Onyx has a rather cool easter egg : ctrl+alt+click under the Onyx icon in the toolbar.
