    Question Database Software Suggestions
    Hey there!
I work for a build shop and we're needing to document all the objects that we've build into an extensive, searchable database complete with photos. However, we've no idea what programs would be appropriate to use. We also would like to eventually have the database available for online searches via a website.

While Freeware isn't REQUIRED, it is PREFERRED.

We have Mac OS X 10.5.8

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Well, you have Bento3, but that's not free.

You have you're Oracle, this ids a favorite.

And of course OpenOffice, NeoOffice, and MySQL.

    Hope this helps

I would try OpenOffice's database package first. If it's not powerful enough for you, FileMaker's Bento can easily handle what you're looking to do, but as Sur3Mac said, it is not free.
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Neither Bento nor OpenOffice could support a website.

MySQL could, and it's free, but it's complicated to set up and use.
FileMaker could, and it's easier than MySQL, but it's expensive.

There are free versions, and then there are paid versions with support.

Try MAMP (MAMP: Mac, Apache, MySQL, PHP). It's meant for a small database driven website like what you're looking for.
