    Deaf ears!
Whenever I put a DVD (film) in my G5, all the settings for the sound go to 'optical in and out'. This renders the Mac able to view the film but no sound comes out! This has never happened before now, but now happens all the time. What's going on? Can anyone help?
The world is full of constraints. Constraints like Windows and Gates. Bannish the constraints of this world - and roam free.. as free as a Mac.

Check the volume on the Dvd player.
What kind of speaker are you using?

With no DVD in, start DVD Player. Under preferences =>Disc Setup => Audio Output, what is the setting?

Do you use any of the sound controllers out there? (hijack this, etc...)

How are you determining that all sound is going to optical out?
