Why is it Windows users have all these different modernized AOL's while Mac users are stuck in the 7.0 period. They have Security Editions, AOL Music, Computer Check Up, etc. Our AOL is overall so primitive..yet I heard the version before the one I have now was so much worse. We should be modernized too!

As a PC user, the only thing I notice different with new versions of AOL is more ads, you aren't missing anything. Simple is good.

The bigger question is why are you using AOL? There are many other, cheaper, faster alternatives for internet access.

My parents don't want to change their e-mail addresses so they keep their account active, I just use their account when traveling.

I was thinking of axing AOL and getting Roadrunner. but I haven't done anything for it yet because I'm not sure if my iChat is working right. I'll click into it but nothing will come up..does anyone know what to do?

Well can't AOL automatically forward e-mails to a different mail account?

And what about mail? Doesn't aol support pop access?

If not then it bites even more than I thought ...

Haha, just figured it out for you:

"Windows users"

-> "They have Security Editions, Computer Check Up, etc."

Notice something?

Why would AOL do that? It would encourage people to cancel their accounts.

No, the don't support POP access.

AOL doesn't have POP access; that's the reason why Hiptop users need a seperate program to access their AOL mail.

AOL doesnt support POP access, but you can use an IMAP compatible client to get your email. I know entourage is capable of this but not sure about Mail or other clients. Look on the AOL website for information for using a 3rd party client for retrieving your AOL email.

I have AOL piggybacked to my DSL extreme (for my kids) and I keep an email address on there. Works just fine w/ Entourage.

Mail can do IMAP. That's what I do with all my e-mail accounts.

Yeah, AOL bites big time... they don't support POP3, don't support forwarding, don't support mobile, don't support..... See a trend here? The problem is if you have family that depends on AOL and you don't want to pay for more than one ISP you're screwed. Fortunately, AOL has recently announced an upcoming free "hotmail" type service that will permit your "untechnical" loved ones to chat and email with their screen names and free you to find an ISP with a clue. Good Luck!

Well, I'm not sure what you mean, but people can already chat and email with people on AOL without having an AOL account. AIM IM works just fine for that. I'm new to the Mac community so I'm not sure how it works here. But theres plenty of that going on in the PC world.

Did you set iChat for .Mac or AIM? Have you run repair permissions?

I meant that current users will be able to use a free webmail service with their existing user names thereby not being dependant on paid AOL subscription services. AIM has always been available for free, if the rumours are true now AOL email is too.
