Can I set Safari to only open new tabs? I hate it when it opens new windows. I know I can right click the link and select open in new tab, but I want to set it to always default to a new tab instead of a new window.

I found an option to set applications to open a link in a new tab instead of a window, but what about links already in Safari?

As far as I can ascertain, neither Safari nor Firefox will by default open links in a new Tab from within the application/bookmarks.

Your options are R-click or the Cmd-Option-Shift-click to open a link in a new Tab. I find that second one as handy as the R-click option.

Try this:

From Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Kill Safari (cmd-quit) and relaunch. It should now open new links in new tabs,
as long as they're 'offsite', similar to how Firefox works.
