I'm stumped. I've fiddled with it for over an hour with no luck. It's a simple procedure: I just want to print out a 10 page doc. on the TextEdit app that came with my Intel iMac and I want the pages numbered. TextEdit Help says go to Pref>New Document>click on Number Pages when Printing. I did that, but still page numbers didn't show up in print-outs. Whassssup?
Anyone. . .Please? TIA

If you click File => Print => Preview, do the numbers show up in the Print Preview?

Yes, the page numbers show up in the bottom right of the page when I look at the Print Preview.

Just a guess here, but I'd be willing to bet that your printer driver is lacking in some regard. Are you using the driver that came from the manufacturer, or did you just use the one that OS X found automatically?

It's an inexpensive HP Deskjet 4100 series combo printer scanner. So far as I can remember it was just plug and go with my 17" Intel iMac, 2CD, OS 10.4.11. I think the computer recognized it right away. Frankly, it's the best printer I've ever had, not a single problem, not a single paper jam, scans, copies etc..

Disregard the above. I just rummaged through my drawer and found a driver disk for the printer, so I must have installed it using the disk it came with.

I would recommend you go out to the HP website and get the latest version. Modern printers often rely on very complex drivers, since the computer does more of the processing than the printers used to. As the drivers are very complex, they're often updated with bug fixes. I would recommend picking up the latest version and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try.
.....Cheers
