    Safari will not update... Help?
Safari was running REALLY slow, and all of my other applications were running fast (as usual) so I restarted my computer and tried it again. Still slow. So I restart several more times. Once I knew it was not going to work, I uninstalled Safari. I did a software update in hopes that it would see I was lacking Safari and try to give it to me. It did not so I went to the Apple website and downloaded it from there.

After downloading it, I tried to install the .app but it said that it (Safari) required 10.5.2 in order to be installed. I found this odd, as I have 10.5.4... So for "s and g" I tried to do the same with the Tiger version of Safari and obviously it did not work.

So then I went to my install disk and grabbed Safari off there, and it installed fine. It works really fast. But the problem is that it will not let me upgrade to the newest version of Safari because I "need 10.5.2"....

So I am stuck with an older version and a problem that I have yet to solve. Any advice?

*scratches head* Just how did you uninstall Safari in the first place?

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).

After thinking more on your problem...

the problem is simply this: Safari is not meant to be "uninstalled". There is no uninstaller, so you must have merely deleted the app. The version you are trying to download is for 10.5.2. Period. The 10.5.4 update came with a Safari update (3.1.2) which you have deleted.

Now, that all said, do you have a backup? Time Machine? Anything? Surely you didn't go deleting things willy-nilly without a backup plan in place?

Please verify and include the exact model/year of your Mac and OS X version number (available from "About This Mac", then "More Info" on the Apple menu).

In addendum to my prior post... if you don't have a backup, then try downloading the 10.5.4 combo update. Then use Pacifist to browse through the packages in the update and find the Safari app. Once found, copy it into your Apps folder. Hopefully that's all you need to do.
