Sync files from mac to a usb.

Hi have an imac and I want to put some files on a usb stick take them to work and do some work on them. I want to be able to bring the usb home put it into my mac and sync the usb and file together so that the changes I made at work are transfered on to the mac. windows use to do this via a brief case.
Any help would be grateful.
