Newbie: Software Required/Installed

Forgive the newbie question
The standard software with a Macbook, is it enough to get you going or do I have to spend a couple of hundred more to get the basics (word processing, movie watching, photos, home movie editing, etc.)
Any help would be appreciated, you were new once

iWork is GREAT. pages and numbers are really good so far.

quicksilver is sweet, i love it, and front row seems good for watching movies.

i havent tried video editing yet....

go to the switcher forum, there is sticky with programs check them out. its very helpful thats what i did.
