Good software to add metadata to songs?

I'm currently looking for a good program to automatically add metadata to my music library. However, I don't like when songs are tagged in "best of" albums. Mostly because the release date isn't the true release date for the song. For example if a song was released in the 60s and then the band released a "best of" album in the 80s, if that song gets tagged under the "best of" album it will have a release date in the 80s. I use a lot of smart playlists to sort by release date and don't want songs getting put in incorrect time ranges. I've already manually edited a lot of songs to their original release album. Will this program "correct" the metadata back to the "best of" album? Mostly I just want it to fill in the missing data. At this point, pretty much all of my music is in the correct album, but not all of them have the release dates, track #s, etc... What program would you recommend (freeware if possible...) for me?

Rinse does what you want (used to be Tidy Songs). I specifically didn't like it because it 'broke' compilations and best-of albums but that seems to be what you're after so worth a look.
