• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Have you tried deleting the preferences? Make sure FCP is closed and go into:
user > library > preferences and delete the following file:

com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist

Then go into the Final Cut Pro User Data folder down below and delete:

Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs.fcset
Final Cut Pro POA Cache

It wouldn't hurt to delete the others (don't delete any folders or plug ins!)

No matter what, when you launch Final Cut Pro again you'll have to reset the scratch discs and other preferences, so be sure to check everything. Launch FCP by itself first, set everything up and then click on the save file(s) you were trying to open.

Just the other Final Cut preferences, but not any folders or plug-ins themselves. If that doesn't work, try registering and asking at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/ since they have a ton of FCP guys there.
