    iMovie Noob - Best Quality
    Hello all....

I'm a new 'switcher' and lovin' it so far.

I'm in the market to buy a solid-state camcorder (Xacti HD2 or Panny SD-1) and sell off my Sony TRV900. However, before I do that, I need to transfer all my DV tapes to DVD for later editing/archiving. I want to transfer them using the best quality possible. Can someone give some tips/pointers/suggestions?
    Thanks.

Just plug the camera in using a Firewire cable, and open iMovie. Click on import video, and it will do the rest. Then there's an option to export video either as DVD video or full DV quality. I'd suggest the uncompressed DV quality for later editing.

Just thinking 'out loud' ...[Macbook 2.0 Ghz 2gb ram]
1.) is it possible to capture from my camera through my Macbook to an external USB 2.0 drive?

2.) Can I edit from the external drive without transferring to my Macbook? Serious performance hit?

3.) I have an old external FireWire enclosure with an Oxford 911 chipset. Is this a better alternative that a USB drive?

4.) What about rotational speed on the external...7200 vs. 5400 vs USB2.0 vs FireWire. Much difference on an externally connected drive with either interface?

    Thanks.
