• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

youtube video resolution

since I have had my new 24 inch imac I have been playing with imovie and my camcorder making short videos of my favorite hobby and posting them on youtube. the videos look ok once uploaded as long as you don't view them full screen. I would like to increase the quality of my videos to such that they look nice when viewed full screen. So my question is this, is the video being compressed to much or do I need a better video camera.

If the video is being compressed to much before uploading it to youtube, how do I resolve this. If I need a better video camera what model will give me what I am looking for.

What is the video resolution you are uploading? What is the full screen resolution you are displaying on? If you are blowing up the picture, then expect pixelizeation.

No matter how good the quality is you are uploading, remember that YouTube re-encodes your upload to their specs and will reduce the data rate substantially which will cause a lower quality result. You still want to upload the best quality that you can.

You didn't say anything about your camera, so we can't say if another one might help out. If your camera is standard def, then yes, a high def camera will help.

See my YouTube and iMovie export guides for some helpful information.

Yes, you can edit, export and upload HD video to the web.
