iDVD - 11 hours?!

iDVD told me it would take 11 hours to burn my DVD. It has been a few hours and it now says 9 hours, leading me to believe this is not a time estimation mistake.

I can usually burn a DVD in around 3 hours. The only differences between this DVD and previous DVDs I have burned is that the content was ripped on the 'Normal' setting of Handbrake instead of the iPod setting, it is in widescreen ratio instead of normal ratio, and I am using Sony DVD+Rs instead of Memorex.

I understand that the Normal setting of Handbrake will give me a larger file than the iPod setting, but 11 hours? Seriously?

I just started a new DVD project with a file that was NOT ripped in the Normal setting, but the iPod setting, and is in STANDARD ratio, and it again says it will take 11 hours. This leaves the only difference between the shorter burn time and the longer burn time to be the switch in recordable media I'm using - I went from Memorex DVD+Rs to Sony. Why in the heck would Sony DVD+Rs take 11 hours to burn?

Even at the lowest burn speed it would never take that long to burn. It's got to be in the conversion before burning. Why it's taking longer I am not sure. Does your computer seem slower to you lately at all overall? You still using the White Macbook? What are it's specs? How large is the video and what type like AVI, MP4?

Well, yeah..I meant burn as in all together it takes 11 hours, but most of that time is processing time. My computer seems fine, I'm still using the same macbook, 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

The video that took 11 hours was an .mp4. It was 1.33 GB, about 114 minutes. Dimensions 839x462.

The burn time of the new project I'm burning just decreased, I'm not sure why, but now it says it will only take about 3 hours. So for some reason the first movie I burned has been the only one affected so far. The new project was ripped in the iPod setting of Handbrake instead of the Normal setting, and in standard ratio, not widescreen like the first project. They are two .mp4 files, each around 530 MB, each about 45 minutes in length. Dimensions 624x480. Could these differences really account for THAT much increase in processing/burn time?

Someone on the Apple Support forums told me 11 hours is totally possible for the file and settings I described...

Guess I'll have to either change the quality settings or burn while I'm asleep.

Have your tried using visual hub?

I was going to recommend Visual Hub but the company shut down and to get a fully registered and working copy is almost impossible now legally as the company is shut down. Visual Hub blows down everything I have tried in speed. Takes hours off some projects for me.

Sounds like a nice program, wish I could try it. Do you know if a combination of Mactheripper, DVD Imager, and Disk Utility will cut the processing and burn time down?

It took me somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 minutes to burn a one minute clip and a menu in iDVD. Idk why it takes so long.
