There are rumours on various sites saying it's going to be dumped, but I've just recently dumped my cable TV service and am exclusively using Netflix online, plus iTunes and so Apple TV would be good to be able to watch the latter on my TV (Xbox 360 takes care of Netflix).

I know no one here can answer the question, but does anyone think Apple TV will be killed? Also, can you use the USB port now to store content on an external drive? I know you could not originally...

I don't know the answer to your latter question, but I don't think AppleTV will be killed off anytime soon. If anything, I think they're going to keep adding features and functionality, there's a lot of room to grow on that box. Even a modest success in terms of the numbers of units sold can only be profitable for Apple, it means more sales in the iTMS.

As it currently stands the USB port can't be used for an external hard drive with the stock firmware. If you hack the device, you can get all sorts of new functionality with it, such as playing DivX/Xvid files and of course, using an external hard drive.
