An update for MacBook Air-like gestures?

MacBook Air Photo

I really liked the demonstration of the multitouch gestures on the MacBook Air during today’s keynote. Its got me wondering though. Couldn’t Apple release an update to Leopard that would enable these trackpad gestures on existing MacBook and MacBook Pro hardware? I think the trackpad on the MacBook Pro is certainly big enough to accommodate most, if not all of them.

I can’t find information on this anywhere. Does this seem like something Apple would do? Or is it strictly a selling point for the MacBook Air? Post your thoughts in the comments.

    • As soon as I saw te vid I had the same exact thoughts I would love to see this incorped to the mb and mbp. Though I understand it to be hardware as well as software upgrade but still.

    • If that’s the case, that’s a little janky. The MacBook and MacBook Pro touch pads already support two finger sliding (up/down, left/right). I can’t believe that a firmware update couldn’t get it to work, if it is indeed tied to hardware. Still, it might indeed be a hardware issue. If so, it’s too bad. :(

    • It seems to lack a few things that we have on our MacBooks, for a lot more money, all myself and mates really wanted was an upgraded MacBook in a nice aluminum case.
