    iMac update/internet issue
I am having an issue updating my Imac to High Sierra. It's preventing me from doing a lot of things.. I have provided my current information below. I understand I am well behind on updates but I am unsure how to fix this.

    Version 10.6.8
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Startup Disk: Macintosh HD

The error message I get when attempting to update to High Sierra is:

We could not complete your purchase.
This update requires macOS version 10.8 or later.

    Any help would be appreciated.

You might have a look at this page. It looks like you can still order 10.8 from Apple. Once that is installed you should be able to move on to High Sierra.

I'd rather not pay if I don't have to.. thank you though! I will do that if I can't figure out another way.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find a free solution. Cheap is good but free is better. I would give you two cautions FWIW:
    1. Be cautious about where the file comes from Sometiems you will find them out there from questionable sources.
    2. If you are planning to movve up to High Sierra 4 GB of memory will work but more is better if you can swing it.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Kudos Bob. I forgot about that pathway. It should work for the OP.

And, when sorted, may I endorse Sly's remark in post #4 - 4GB may be Apple's minimum requirement for El Capitan or even macOS High Sierra; but in reality 8GB of RAM is a necessity these days to get the latest operating systems to work efficiently.

4GB will limit your utility of High Sierra.
