    Firevault protection from theft?
I have never used filevault. My main concern is if my laptop is ever stolen, would filevault provide adequate protection so that nobody else could get into my home folder?

If this baby gets stolen, I don't want some random person viewing what I keep in there (Or anywhere else really....)

(PS. lame-o on the thread title I know - FILE not FIREvault.... woops)

That is what FileVault is all about. If you use a strong password that baby is not going to open for anyone but you. There are some downsides. If you forget your password you too are locked out. The entire user folder is encrypted, but nothing outside of it. The encrypted user folder is one big file, so the risk of data corruption goes way up, you must have a backup system. To access your stuff you have to have enough free disk space, so you have to keep track of how much room you have. Make sure you understand the difference between the Master Password and the User Password. And most important, you must be logged out of your account. If your laptop gets stolen while it is simply asleep, then the vault is open!
