Pages - and why I found out I needed it.
Just some fun stuff to make you smile!

Well, a while back I read on the forum that if I did not want to deal with the updates to pages, numbers, and keynote, I could just drag them to the trash. So I did!

Yesterday the secretary at work got an email with six sermons sent by another pastor for our pastor to check out. She could not open them and after researching she discovered they were pages documents. Since she did not know what pages was she finally forwarded them to me - since I am the all-knowing tech guru!

I found that preview would open them but did not provide conversion to word. I had to reinstall pages and convert them to word. The secretary's comment was, "who uses pages?" My reply - a church that uses macs and the apps that come on the computer. After all - they are free!

My kingdom for an all mac workplace...

On another note - we recently moved all our email to Microsoft Exchange 365. It is free for non-profits and has much better filtering. What really surprised me was when I had to make the changes on all the Windows computers that run Outlook. Every PC had a different issue. I had to back up their mail account, setup the new exchange account then import the old mail backup. Remember I live in the land of everyone uses Outlook as an email filing system.

When I went to make the changes on my Mac Pro, before I got started a message popped up that said, "Hey, I noticed your work email has changed to an exchange account. Would you like me to make the changes for you?" Well, yes! It did and all my old mail was still there and it all worked. All three of my macs did that and worked perfect.

So I spent three days getting all the PC accounts for the staff - 7 people - set up and less than 5 minutes on three macs. Someday, I will have them all using macs!

Sounds like you already found a solution. I wonder if the original Pages documents would have opened up ok with Open Office. Of course if you didn't have Open Office installed...then you'd have to install something...and that "something" might as well be "Pages".

Nope - no Open Office so Pages was the best option.

Oh, and some days I don't feel like a guru. Some days I think the PC's talk at night and decide to see if they can drive me nuts!
