    iDVD upgrade
Searched iDVD on this forum and got no results. I have a problem with iDVD when trying to create a DVD. I runs forever and then hangs up something about muxing. I find that there are several updates but
when I try to download and update my system give me the "unidentified source" for the app. When I go to the App Store and check for updates, iDVD is not one listed and I don't have any updates
Seems that the latest update is iDVD7.1.2 but this update wants me to have a newer iDVD app than I have now. So there has to be previous updates that I never downloaded. I can I get all this up to date.
Thanks to all who help. I haven't updated my profile but I am running High Sierra 10.13.4.

    Specs:
PPC Mini, 10.4.11. Intel Mini, 10.6.8. MacBook Pro, 10.10.5. iPhone 3GS.
I, and others, had this problem some years ago. Have a look here:
    https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...g-prep.750330/

Post #14 had the answer if I remember correctly:
After searching on the Internet and not finding solutions; but many helpful hints, I did the following in iDVD:

Advanced -> Encode in Background (so that it becomes UNCHECKED).

Advanced -> Delete Encoded Assets (forget the warnings that come with it - just delete them!).

I then clicked burn and no more errors! Takes a little longer to process as it is no longer encoding in the background; but at least it actually works (for me anyway)!

According to Apple for the Download iDVD 7.1.2:
    System Requirements
Mac OS X 10.6.7 or later

    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1414?locale=en_US

    Yeah right apple…

But maybe some of the others may be more compatible with whatever you have installed from here:

    Specs:
2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 6s+, iPhone 7+, Numerous iPods, High Sierra
I just opened iDVD 7.1.2 and selected new project. It nicely told me that my Mac does not have a DVD drive and continued in a loop playing music until I closed the app. Not sure what good it is and I believe it's also a 32 bit app which will probably die in the next version of macOS.

Hmmm…??? I wonder where and how or even why they went to the effort to get that to work.

Was it playing the sort of music one would experience at a funeral perhaps???

It just sat in silence as it always has done on my 27" 2011 iMac, currently running Mavericks when I tried earlier today. Of course this iMac has a builtin optical drive.

Did all the suggested tricks and still don't have a working iDVD. Guess the only solution is to buy some off brand DVD creator and not Wondershare.

Have a look at some of the comparison apps:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/6823/apple-idvd

Or maybe use Burn.app that worked well the last time I used it, or one of the suggested comparison apps. Don't forget to read some of the comments and bypass downloading any macupdate apps you don't need or want probably:
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21992/burn

BTW: iDVD is listed as working OK with the possible exception of with Sierra:

    EDIT:
Also, did you try a websearch on 'High Sierra iDVD not working' etc? like:
    https://www.google.com/search?client...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I just came across this in case it helps, but I've never used it:
iDVD Replacement: Easy app to Replace iDVD in Sierra and earlier macOS

    http://www.techisky.com/software/idv...mavericks.html

    EDIT:
    Warning and heads up
Suspicious Package.app says certificate has expired:
I'd stick to giving Burn.app a try. Several display options available as I recall.
