First post since changing to mac in Oct last year. I bought a Macbook Pro 17 inch and it was a pure joy to own. I had a desktop PC and had no problems with Itunes in the Macbook Pro or PC. The mac was so great I changed my desktop to a Mac Pro and the only thing giving me a headache is Itunes. First it wouldn't have anything to do with my ipod. I restored it but every time I tried to update it on the Mac Pro it would kick it out half way through the download process. Luckily I could restore my ipod on the macbook pro. Can you get a corrupt version of Itunes?? I plug in my ipod in the front USB ports and it doesn't bring up any details of my ipod. In the back USB ports it presents all the information but still no joy updating the ipod. Do I just give up and use the macbook pro for all my itunes? I have no other issues with my Mac Pro. I can use the front USB ports with any other device or program with no issues what so ever. All the software has been updated. Being an ex pc user I am use to things never going smoothly. Any suggestions with what to try. I am planning to contact Apple Support as I have only owned the Mac Pro for 1 week.

Welcome to M-F

Are you using the most recent versions of iTunes and OS X?

It was one of the first things I did was to make sure all updates were current.

Maybe your ipod is still formatted for Windows? I know I can't use ipods formatted for windows and visa versa for the windows people.

Yu should be able to. The Mac will recognize and work with Windows formatted iPods just fine.

I formatted the ipod for the Mac Pro. The old itunes/music files are in safe keeping on an external harddrive. The macbook pro didn't require me to format the ipod it just worked. It was quite happy with the windows formatting. When I tried to put the files back onto the ipod using the macpro it gets through about 1000 songs and then I get a message that it can't complete it (sorry can remember the exact message even though I got it three times trying different things.) I tried senuti but that just seem to make things worse and lock up Itunes. I have 5g of RAM and heaps of harddrive space so that can't be an issue either. This is a quad core so it can't be the processor.

Just an update post to help anyone else who has the same problem. After trying Senuti, Tune Transfer and Podworks I ended up buying Ipod Access for MAC. Even though the IPOD was in windows format Ipod Access saw all items and kept all ratings and data and transferred it all to Itunes. Then I restored the Ipod and updated from the MAC. Problem solved. Ipod Access was worth every penny and then some for all the time and effort it saved me.
