It appears that we have separated out the iPod and iPhone area from the old "Mac Hardware" area. This is a good move, reflecting a natural division in the user community here at M-F.

However, I wonder about the use of the word "Hardware" in the forum title - ditto for the iPhone forum. Most posts are going to be about the behavior of the device's firmware/software. Hardware will be included of course, but the majority of posts will not directly involve hardware. I see a "Software and Apps" forum, but it is a nil forum (no content) and at any rate, I think most people would prefer integrated forums (both software and hardware) for each of the iPod and iPhone.

I would like to suggest that a better title for these two forums might be simply "iPod" and "iPhone".

I think that because the Appstore will more or less even the playing field in terms of software on both devices, it makes sense for that to be treated equally. But as the hardware is different, that's why we have that separately.

Let's see how it goes once the App store launches and re-evaluate it then!

It's a brand new forum just created yesterday so of course there won't be much activity there yet. :)

As Aptmunich mentioned, the app store and the fact that apps work on both the iPhone and iPod Touch will easily mean a common area is needed for discussion of software apps.

In the end if we're wrong we can always move and rename things. But I think it's premature to determine whether this is the right configuration. :)

You will however notice a slight change to the names of the hardware forums soon. :)
