What is the big difference between the iPhone 5, 5s and 5c? Colorful case on the 5c, screens same size, 4 inches, Touch I.D. on the 5s, other than that are they about the same ?

The iPhone 5C is an iPhone 5 with a plastic shell. The iPhone 5S has the Touch ID and a much faster CPU architecture. And a better camera. That pretty much sums it up, I think.

Yes to get into a LITTLE more detail that lifeisabeach offered: the iPhone 5c does have some additional slight changes from the iPhone 5:

"The iPhone 5 is very slim and its thickness is 7.6 mm. The iPhone 5C is a little thicker having a waist of 8.97 mm. The 5C is wider and measures 59.2 mm to that of 58.6 mm of iPhone 5. The iPhone 5C is taller by a margin of 8 mm than the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5C weighs 132 grams, where the iPhone 5 weighs 112 grams. The 5C sports a beautiful plastic cover and the iPhone 5 has a metalling steel design. The camera on the iPhone 5C sports a BIS (backside illumination sensor) so that the photos are a lot better under low light. Both the phones support 3G/HSPDA and the CDMA2000 networks along with the 4G/LTE. But the iPhone 5C has been designed to be compatible with more LTE bands."

The iPhone 5s, on the other hand, has better everything. Better graphics, better processor, more RAM, more storage options, a better camera, the M7 motion coprocessor (useful if you're a fitness buff) and Touch ID as liab mentioned. If you can afford the extra $100, the 5s is a no-brainer. If not, you the iPhone 5c is still a fantastic iPhone and I love the way Apple "metallized" the back plastic so it doesn't feel in any way cheap or slippery. You'll see what I mean when you hold one, it's nothing like most "plastic" smartphones.

I was going to buy a 5s but my son sent me a 5c for a birthday gift. Great phone but I'm having a hard time keeping my wife from stealing it from me and giving me her 4!

By the way, I bought an OWC NuGuard case for it. Great case to protect the phone from drops and most mishandling.

This infers a point about the backing material/color on the 5 vs 5C vs 5S. Many, if not the overwhelming majority of iPhone users get cases to protect their iPhone, which makes the material of the backing more or less moot.

My feeling in handling the iPhone 5c was that it doesn't really need a case, as plastic doesn't scratch easily. But then I tend to handle my iPhones as though they cost $500-$800 and are expensive to repair ... :)

I have had my iPhone 4 for about 2 years and have only maybe dropped it a couple times once was down a stairs but good thing I had a case on it and it survived. It still has not yet broke and still kinda looks new with a few minor slight scratches on the back. Right now I am using a galaxy s4 as my daily driver. I freaking love this phone. 10x better then my old iPhone 4. Best part is I only payed 50 dollars for it at best buy and got a protection plan on it that is only 15 a month just incase. I may upgrade to the iPhone 7 if it gets released in the next 2 years or stick with samsung. Well have to wait and see until then.

Thanks everybody, everyone on here is very helpful and considerate. First time for an iPhone and Smartphone, possibly switching carriers, from Verizon to AT&t, seems AT&T has some better deals. The iPhone 5s is the top of the line, latest. With the ram and processor will the 5s use up less data?
Mastershake, I have found much cheaper insurance plans that are rated very good and have more features than some, check them out.
