I was thinking of getting a AirPrint compatible printer, but you're saying I can just use that program and bypass having to buy a new printer? I don't have dropbox.

The Dropbox solution is far from perfect since you can only print from apps that can upload or export to Dropbox (and since you can't access the filesystem with iOS, it gets trickier). You might want to see what apps you use and whether or not they can export to Dropbox before you commit yourself to that method.

As "Raz0rEdge" pointed out, Printopia is a great solution. Easy to use and it works. Well worth the price of registration.

I like my HP air print printer because HP has an eprint service and corresponding app. You sign up with eprint when you first get your printer and it assigns an "email' address to your printer. You install the app on your iOS device and sign in and as long as you leave your printer turned on, you can print to it from anywhere. The app "emails" the print job to your printer.
Aside from that, some hotels and resorts use eprint for guests to print boarding passes and other useful itenerary forms from their mobile devices when on vacation. No standing in line waiting to use the one or two computers in the lobby.

Just throwing that out there for consideration. :)
