I'm getting ready to order an iphone 5 and thought that I would start out here by asking dumb and probably oft repeated questions (there will be many more to follow).

My touch is a 4th gen and I have it synced with my pc in itunes. When I get my phone I am planning on plugging it into the pc and hoping that I can basically transfer all the apps, contacts, settings etc. over to the phone. Am I being horribly naive?

If this is possible then what happens to the stuff on the ipod? There are a few games on the ipod that my son likes to play and I would like to give the ipod to him. Will they be on both devices, presuming I can transfer them, or will the ipod be wiped clean after the transfer?

Thanks

In iTunes you will be able to sync anything you already have on the iPod to the iPhone and then you have a choice of what you want to leave on your iPod.
Just uncheck what you do not want in each section then hit sync.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Sounds easy enough....I'm sure that I will screw it up. I am trying to anticipate all of the different ways that I can do it wrong before I plug the phone in.

Do I need to rename or reassign the ipod after this is done? I am trying to avoid getting charged $500 on my credit card for Angry Bird merchandise after I hand over the reigns.

I am not familiar with the terms and agreements on games got nothing against them I am not a gamer.
But if you connect your iPod and look at iTunes and check out what you can select or de-select in apps, photos, podcast, movies and music it will be the same for the phone.
