imho - researching a piece of electronics that you do not plan to buy for a year - is still virtually a waste of time and the effort it takes to make a real purchasing decision. As soon as you've made the choice on what to buy, the whole scene of what's available will be turned upside down. There is likely not a single model that you look at today that's even going to be on the shelves a year from now.

Staying abreast of the technology is a good idea as that will lead to a lesser amount of research when you are ready to buy. But the research itself as to what's the best one today for your personal use and functionality is best done at the time you're ready to walk into the store and lay down your cash.

Point taken. But, I do think it's still good to be aware of what's out there now in addition to the technology. Even if you're in my shoes. And if we're talking about iPhones the changes won't be huge more evolutionary.

The 4s is faster than the 4. Records in 1080p vs 720p. Supports iCloud. 8MP vs 5MP photos. Nothing really outstanding. So if you had a 4 I don't think the 4s would be worth upgrading. I doubt the 5 will be that much more different than the 4s. They might finally give us a 4-4.5" screen and 4G with good battery life. Time will tell.

Sometimes our wants far exceed current chip technology for both speed, size, weight and battery consumption since Apple is not in the habit of compromising any of those
it may be late 2012 before a true 4G hits their shelves. I could live with HSPA+ as it would be faster than my home. In the end with all the data caps we are just racing to
our allocated limit at some point. I like the bigger screen of some of the Android models till I put it in my pocket then it dawned on me why the iPhone is the size it is.

I can't believe the amount of silliness in this thread. What are you, 2?

+ Rep for dtravis7 for the link. Good stuff in there. If you read the comments though, even after spelling all the technology out there are still people whining...
