Leds in housing / rear panel mod?

Hello All,

Ever since I bought my Iphone 3G I have been wanting to mod the shell out much like the way the PSP can be moded like this:

I never found a shell for the 3G but I did however recently buy an Iphone 4 and they do make a transparent blue back panel mod for it which I purchased today.

Is there anyway I can mount super small leds found here in the back of the rear housing panel above the battery to make the transparent blue back panel glow or show the light through the blue back panel?

To take it one step further I think it would be really cool if there was a vibration/motion sensor you could install which would cause the leds to flash when the phone was vibrating because of a call or text.

If it's to risky to install leds I think I might use pieces of the glow in the dark bumper film to line pieces of the inside of the back panel that way in the dark or under UV it will look like something is happening underneath the back panel.

I picture the mod looking something like this

I know they sell multi colored iPhone 4 back panels, I have not seen a clear one, But it's worth the shot.

Do you have a link to the glow film source? With the back case off… can you see the internals? Clear would be pretty slick.

The source for the glow in the dark film can be found on eBay. or you can search google for "glow in the dark iPhone 4 wrap"

As for being able to see inside the phone with the new back panel, I do not know for sure and will not know until I install the new back panel, my hope and ultimate goal is for a translucent blue back panel with leds inside to highlight the various components behind it. This is what the phone looks like without the back panel on.

As you can see it's not very flattering as the battery takes up the majority of the phones back side. To the upper left is the phones flash memory component and bellow that is the back side of the logic board on the other side of it you would be able to see the A4 chip.

As you can see and could easily guess its all an extremely tight fit so any leds placed into the phones back panel would have to be fused or cut into the plastic back panel it's self then some how wired to the phones power source, I believe it's possible just very difficult, but none the less beyond my skill level. I'm hoping someone out there with a background in electrical engineering or who has worked on the iPhone 4 project could give me some insight on how to tap into the phones power source or the risk involved with damaging / overheating the phone.

Another concern I have is the back of the back panel on many of the replacement back panels I have seen have a solid piece that attaches the panel to the phone. This of course would take the transparency away from the back panel.

That is not the same back panel I ordered but I am assuming the one I have will have a similar configuration or somehow use one that already is in the phone attaching the default back panel the phone came with.

Yup, I need to find a clear back 'housing frame' I can only find them in black and white, this is what they look like.

If anyone finds a clear one or is able to mold me a clear one please PM me or reply.

I actually contacted a plastic molding company to see if they could make a copy of the back housing frame using a clear plastic.
