New iPad Pro & Mail Settings; only check manually
I have a new, NOV 16, iPad Pro, and do NOT want it to check email accounts unless I do so manually. IOS 10.2. I have tried everything, but pretty sure am missing something, and still checking automatically.

    Thanks for your help.

Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data > check "Manually" under "Fetch" and change each account at the top of this page to "Fetch" (if it's set to "Push").

I had already done that, but still checking randomly. The option to check 'manually' is only under Settings>Mail>Accounts>Fetch New Data>Manually checked. Do not see the 'fetch' option on individual accounts. Will see what happens now after upgrade & checking your instructions.

    Hi Ruth,

Some accounts, by default, are set to push so new mail will come down whenever it comes in. Exchange accounts are like this (so, Office 365 and many corporate accounts will do this by default). What email accounts are you finding that checked randomly (just the provider is fine)?
