Hi everyone,

I have an IPad running iOS 7.1.1. This has a connection to an Exchange Server. Every now and again (could be 2 weeks, could be 2 months!) I get a message when I open Outlook that says "Connection to server failed, incorrect password" (I've translated this from German, so it might not be exact). I try to enter the password again and I receive an identical message. When this has happened in the past the password has been deleted from the Exchange Server and re-entered. This fixes the problem for somewhere between 2 weeks and 3 months before the message is received and no emails can be sent or received.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? Is there anything I can do to keep the connection permanent?

7 or 8 IPads are connected to the Exchange Server, this is the only one that experiences this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dave

It sounds like your particular iPad is inducing corruption on an intermittent basis which changes the password (corrupts it). If the other iPads are not experiencing the problem, then it's local to yours. You can try backing up the iPad and then reset it using iTunes. You didn't mention which iPad you have, but if you reset it, the latest version of iOS for that iPad will be installed. You're using an older version of iOS as the current version is 8.4.1.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Updating the iPad is something I considered, I'm just a little concerned that other programs that are quite specific to our business won't work and that I might end up with a bigger problem than intermittent email.

If I were to reset it and iOS was updated to 8.4.1, is there no way reverting it back to 7.1.1?

Thanks again.

And by the way, it's an iPad mini 2.

Correct. Since 7.1.1 is no longer signed by Apple you would be stuck with 8.4.1. You would need to test your business programs on an iOS device running 8.4.1 first to determine if they will continue to work correctly. Perhaps you can do that on a personal device rather than one owned by your company.

Are the other 7-8 iPads also running 7.1.1?

So it would be reasonable to surmise that you could too, without running into problems with your business programs?
