I refer you to the quote from Steve Jobs:

"if you see a stylus, they blew it."

That said, there are a few applications where a stylus is useful, but never mandatory.

I bought one to try it and it works, but it is a lot easier to use my finger (as I seem to remember Steve Jobs saying, "you always have them with you . . ." :)

I have used my iPad and iPhone outdoors in very cold weather on a couple of occasions where prolonged exposure to the cold just wasn't comfortable for my fingers. In those cases the stylus was life-saver. Other than that, I've never had use for one.

Never use a stylus. For what I do with the iPad it's not needed.

My wife has discovered that her nose will work for unlocking the iPad in very cold weather when she doesn't want to take off her gloves.

Next I'm going to train her to play a series of horns and bounce a beachball on her nose. :)

Hahahahahahha! That is a excellent idea though. I was out with my iPhone in FREEZING weather with gloves and could not unlock it. That might just work! Thanks for that!
