I never really used one prior to today, so a comparison I can't make. That being said.....I Love It! I spent about an hour going through it and downloading some apps. I'll end up setting it up close to the way my phone is, as far as apps, shortcuts & bookmarks go. After using my iPhone 4 I do however wish it had a little better resolution, but it's not that big of a deal.

Engadget just posted an article about the iFixit tear down, they did confirm the 512mb of RAM.

And from personal use, I can tell you it's blazingly fast.

Tell us about your new iPad 2!

Tell us what you think about you're new iPad 2 here!

Did you have the original iPad? How do they compare?

How long did you have to wait in line/how far into the line were you/which model did you get

I am sooo excited to finally have it! In my own opinion, this iPad blows the original iPad out of the water. To me, it's just so much more comfortable to hold and its sooo fast! Noticeably fast!

I went to Columbus, Ohio (about 2 hours away) and I got there at 12:30pm and was about the 15th person in line. By the time 5 rolled around there was probably close to 200 people if not more in line!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I'm excited I made the decision to go there and wait for a few hours :)

I was 1st on line at Target, got there at 11:00am. They had 5 64GB Wi-Fi's, and person #5 showed up at 4:44pm, lol.

That must have been pretty boring waiting at Target for 6 hours with only 4 other folks in line! Kinda run out of conversation real fast.

Are you saying your Target ONLY had 5 64gig WiFi's...or did they have other models as well?

Thanks,

- Nick

That's the first time I have ever waited in line for everything and now I see why it is so important to be early!

Actually 2 managers & the electronics associate were BS'in with us the whole time and surprisingly the time flew by. And yes that particular Target only had 5 64GB units, NO others at all. Only 3 Targets in the Tampa area had any at all so I considered myself lucky. Back on the "review" subject, I am VERY impressed with the battery life. I used it for about an hour an a half last night, and my kids have literally been on it ALL day today. They are watching a Netflix movie so it only has a few % left, but man that's a great battery.

So I posted earlier about how great the battery is. Well it's been charging for 5 hours now and it's only at 70%. Is it normal to take so long? My iPhone charges really fast and even my MacBook Pro charges faster than that.

Yep, my local Target only had 5 as well. But I showed up after the 5p launch, so I wasn't expecting to see them there anyways.

I have both the original and iPad 2 in front of me. The Apple ads are pretty accurate--faster, thinner, lighter, FaceTime. That about sums it up. The faster processor and increased RAM make a noticeable difference. On the original, I had certain web pages (forums with tons of high res pictures) that would take forever to load and then wouldn't show all the images (left blue boxes with a ?). But the iPad 2 fixes that. Loading USAToday or The Daily is virtually instantaneous now.

Is it an, OMG you're insane if you don't upgrade kind of thing? Well, no, the original is still awesome and quite capable. But the difference with the second one is quite noticeable. I'd say it's quite similar to my experience of going from the iPhone 3G to the 3GS. I didn't plan to do that upgrade, but when I saw how much faster the 3GS was, it was a done deal.

first off I only decided to buy an iPad 2 because I had a major falling out with my kindle (another topic/maybe I'll post a new topic on that falling out at a later point). Once I made the decision I was pretty much trying to find reasons to talk myself out of buying one, clearly I failed... ;D

- so far I love my iPad, I am sat in coffee store obliterating the free wifi (I did get a 3G one but the 3G is PAYG and only meant for non wifi situations for me.

- never had an original, but I always thought the first one felt a bit too heavy, especially compared to my kindle (funny how you change your mind when you want one huh). One thing I am a little surprised by is the way iPhone apps look like little boxes, I thought they'd have looked better on iPad, yes I realise I can re-buy my apps in 'hd' and some I probably will ... But it still surprised me. Also surprised there isn't an iPad app for Facebook, although you can just use the browser can't you :)

- because the launch time was so late in the day I pretty much thought I had no chance of getting one after work. I tried all the same, when I got to the main apple store for my area I saw a huge queue and some security guard telling people that the queue that is there already pretty much have all of the iPads so little reason to join queue unless you want to see if anyone changes their mind by the time they get the bill... Didn't fancy waiting for a 'just in case' scenario so just went back home. The next day I drove to a secondary apple store, I was about 11 in the queue and was got the very last one :)

So far really happy!!!

EDIT: the keyboard is ace to type on, it really is!

I find that using the wall plug it should take less time, but charging off the computer* will take forever.

*Very recent MBPs have 1100mA of power unless you have a lot of other USB peripherals connected, then they drop to 500mA, so that could be the problem. The brand-new 2011 MBPs have 2100mA, so they charge the iPad just as quickly as the wall charger.

I'd be interested in this Dave as I've my iPad on order - don't have an iPad1 and was considering getting a Kindle as well as it seems it would be a better bet for reading outdoors. I can't really justify getting the kindle as well [to the missus] so looking for excuses. :)

Well I fell out with it for a couple of reasons.. I wrote a new thread here to give a little more info (typical of me, it's a little long...):

Why I fell out with the kindle
