Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum thing. I just wanted to get people's input on a couple of Apple products.
My birthday is coming up, 9/29, and my husband wants to get me an iPad. Is there going to be a 2nd gen. coming soon? Is it best to wait? Kind of sucks not knowing if one will be out soon or not because my birthday is really close and I'd ♥ to get an iPad but I don't want to get one then find out a month or so later a newer & better iPad comes out. I've already expeirenced this with the iPhone. I bought my husband & I a 3gs in April 2010 only to see the new and amazing iPhone 4 come out in July. && at&t wouldn't let me exchange or give me a good deal to upgrade. So PLEASE, give me y'alls advice!
Thnx!;D

Unfortunately when it comes to Apple products, your guess is as good as anyone else's..will there be a 2nd generation iPad, no doubt..WHEN is the big question..the iPhone's have been released on a 12-14 month interval..maybe the iPad will follow suit..maybe not..the iPod family of products have had refreshes a lot less than iPhone..the Macs vary greatly from 9 months to 14-18 months..

So, bottom line, it's all over the place and no way of predicting when the next iPad will come out..

If you've played with the current iPad at the store and are happy with it, there's no reason to not buy it in hopes of the 2nd generation coming out soon..

My First Post!

Anyways I am also debating if I want to buy an iPad. I really want one becuase it is a great tool for my college classes. Most of my books are ebooks this semester and it is was lighter than carrying around my MacBook Pro. I am thinking about going this week and getting one. But I am being cheap and debating on it.

4th generation iPad will be even better!;) Just have to wait about 3-4 years for it to be released!:(

The 4th generation iPod Touch was just released...and it finally got the front & rear facing camera's that a lot of iPod Touch folks wanted! The 1st generation iPod Touch was released September, 2007...so it took 3 years & the 4th generation to get the cameras on the iPod Touch.

If you can wait long enough...good things can happen...but then you miss all the fun along the way!;)

What??! I heard the 5th generation was the one to wait for. It's going to wash your clothes and feed your dog. ;)

For those of you who are waiting, the iPad is still new and I have a feeling that it will have the iPhone/Touch/iPod release schedule which is about once a year. It's only been a few months since its release so it's probably safe to say that there won't be a new one coming out soon.

Apple doesn't tell us when they release their products so no one really knows. If you want one now then you just have to go for it.

Like many of the other people said, you might as well just get the iPad now! I have the 16GB WiFi iPad and absolutely love it. But to get technical, the likely time frame for the next iPad will either be November because of the iOS 4.2 update being put off until then, OR January-March 2011.

Personally, I'd wait for the barista option. But that's me.

Seriously though... do you NEED it right now ? Just because it's your birthday, that doesn't mean you actually have to have it right away. Tell yer hubby to take you out on a really nice date, and hold off for the second gen iPad. It will have a camera for Facetime and who knows what else. Just my take on it.

I read on the Internet that the 4th Gen will be able to create Higgs bosons, and also play the guitar solo from stairway to heaven.

Best hang on a bit, eh?

As long as Higgs Boson dosent produce a scalar boson we should all be fine ;P That could get a little scary lol

But come on peoples the OP has had 2 posts and you come up with this tripe for them ..... Maybe a bit more constructive comments wouldnt go astray ;)

iPhone 4 prototypes apparently kept spraying pseudoscalar mesons all over the place, but they changed the antena design for the production model. Moved it to the corner

To the OP ... here's my view on things.

There will be a 2nd version of the iPad sometime.
Take a step back and define what functionality you expect the iPad to deliver.
If the current model delivers what you need, why wait ?
There will be an upgrade to the operating system in November 2010 with new functionality on the same hardware.
If you expect camera's and other things that require hardware changes, you need to wait.

I went for an iPad as soon as it was available and I am enjoying it every day whilst other people are waiting for an undefined period of time and waiting for unknown extra functionality. And I am using it as a tool , not as a toy.

When a new version comes out and it provides functionality I need, I will sell this one and buy the new one. Otherwise I will stick with this one.

Cheers ... McBie

I think this is spot on.

Can't imagine there'll be much on the next one that I haven't got somewhere in my rucksack anyway. Bragging rights, maybe, but that'll only last untill the next one comes out.

I normally gnash my teeth a bit at how Apple ration features to keep us upgrading and buying unnecessary accessories, but I have never regretted buying any of their gear afterwards.

(Well, apart for the original Isight - eyewateringly expensive, would only work on the very fastest Mac's, and only in ONE single application, which nobody else had.)

There is absolutely no factual rationale for your conclusions. If you're going to make WAGs, at least label them WAGs.

As others have said, the 1-year anniversary is at least a more supportable guess.

I think that, given that they can barely keep up with demand and the thing is a huge hit, Apple will be quite loathe to introduce any major changes until demand for the current model drops off, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

If you want one, buy one, in other words.

But if you're going to wait, I'd wait for the 6th gen. It will feature 16 3D cameras capable of 4K HD video, will make phone calls to the dead, and radiates cancer-killing magnetic "harmony" radiation that is good for you. Oh, and cost $99.

And did I mention that it doubles as an anti-gravity skateboard a la "Back to the Future"? Trust me, this thing will be THE hot gift of Chrisnnukah 2020.

I really want an iPad, too...but I've decided to wait until the second generation comes out.
I think it will be out around the first of the year, so I, personally, hate to purchase now, and then have a new one out in just a few months. I'm not it a hurry, other than I just want it:)) I waited a few extra months for the iPhone4, so I can do this...I know I can...

While you wait for an unspecified amount of time for your new and improved iPad, I will be enjoying mine, as I have since June. When the new iPad comes out and I actually see with my own eyes what kind of features it has (as opposed to the speculation and wishful thinking of well-intentioned but ill-informed forum members) and If I just gotta have it, then I will put my tired old worn out no good 1st generation iPad on CraigsList and it will probably be gone in a few hours.
