    Safari Sidebar in iPad
I find it quite useful that the sidebar for Safari on my ipad includes history so that I can continue working on or reading a webpage-SOMETIMES (it's not always there, as it is not working at this moment that I am typing this thread). Is there a quick and easy setup that I may be missing that allows me to continue viewing a safari page started on Mac on my ipad and visa-versa?

In iOS 11, Safari has a "Book" icon next to the forward & back buttons, click on that and it will give you your Reading List/Bookmarks/History sidebar.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Sorry, I thought you were on looking for History on your iPad Sidebar. It's not available for macOS Safari.

And I'm really not so sure how useful it is to have on an iPad. I have the 10.5" iPad Pro and when I use Safari (for example - to access our forums) I like the entire screen to show the forums and not have the side bar open at all.

However, on my 27" iMac having the Safari side bar open can actually be convenient at times. But like Bob pointed out, side bar history is not available from macOS.

Here's one way that might solve the probelm for you:

    1. With Safari open go to View Menu>Customize Toolbar
    2. In the sheet that appears look for the History icon (a watch I think) and drag it into the toolbar at the top of the screen. Click OK to close the sheet.

Safari will now open the History list in whatever window you are in. When you are done looking at the history clicking the back arrow takes you to where you were before opening History. If you want to make sure not to lose where you are open a new window or tab first then click the History icon.

It should also be possible to assign the show history command its own keyboard command but I would have to look up how to do so if you are interested. It has been some time before I did that.

@tape I just re-read your initial post and I think I misunderstood what you want to do. Are you trying to start something on one device (say viewing a web page on your Mac) and continuiing the same activity on the iPad? if so then you need to take a look at Apple's Continuity features. Focus on the one called Handoff.

The article I linked to includes a link to minimum system requirements to see if your system /devices support it.
