How to disable double tapping on ipad 2
Hey everyone, I'm at work and one of my co-workers was just given an ipad 2. However, she don't know how to disable double tapping. I looked through settings and everything and can't seem to find it anywhere.

What I mean by double tap is that when she tries to open an app, she touches the icon first then the box is highlighted. Then she has to double tap the app to open it it. She must go through the same steps in order to navigate on the ipad.

So can someone please post how to disable this double tap feature on the ipad?

    Thanks so much.
    Please give me more APPLES!

The iPad does not have a double-tap feature. Everything is done with a single tap. The iPad, like other iOS touch devices, is a multi-touch interface though, so make sure that your co-worker isn't touching another part of the screen by mistake while trying to open the application or do anything.

First, Thanks for trying to help me out.

if it doesn't have double tap, I don't understand why she has to double tap to open any app. However, it more like a triple tap. because she taps it once it once and a clear box outlines the app, then she double taps it twice and the app opens.

Does the touchscreen seem like everything takes multiple taps to work? Does it work the same if the iPad it kept on the table and not being held? If so, might be a defective unit and might need to be replaced..

Don't have my iPad here, but sounds like one (or some) of the Accessibility settings have been turned on. A single touch should open any app.

Head into Settings - General - Accessibility and turn everything off there.

I just tried turning on voice over in the accessibility menu and it does exactly as the OP describes. OP do you have mute on? If it is voice over it should be announcing everything. Either way do as Bob suggested and go to settings -> general -> accessibility -> and make sure voice over is off. It seems like you have to double tap everything if voice over is turned on.

Another +1 for bobtomay's solution, definately looks like Accessibility options have been 'tweaked'

    Double tap with voice prompt
To staff: how can you help someone if you do not have the correct info on the iPad?
I had the same problem! I had to tap once to outline, then it would tell me to double tap to open! My son figured it out for me. Because you also can't scroll!

Settings: General. Use 3 fingers to scroll up, click on accessibility, then click on Voice Over to turn off & you're good to go!

It would be awesome ifs every member with a question would provide ALL the necessary information initially, that would make helping them easy. However, in a lot of cases the OP doesn't know what to look for, so we (all members & staff) ask for the necessary information through our interaction in the post. That's how a forum usually work...

I believe if you will check my post above, without having the device in hand at the office - since it was sitting at home - my advice was exactly what your son did - go into Accessibility and turn everything off there.

With an iPad, there is not just a whole lot of differences between the various versions of iOS regarding the troubleshooting side.

Turning off the 3 fingers to scroll was not the original ops issue - having to double tap to open apps was.

You had two separate issues - requiring adjustments in two different settings - only one of which had the original poster asked about. So naturally, this thread would not have dealt with that.

That's true, but your first response was that the iPad does not have a double tap feature. Obviously it does. Sorry, just saying

Can I just say in the 'staff' defence........ This forum, it's staff and members are not affiliated with Apple.

Between the staff and members here there is a huge quantity of knowledge. But by the very nature of technical support queries you aren't going to get all the information required and you're not always going to get the right answer first time. Forums thrive on collaboration. One persons comment, while possibly not answering the query entirely may trigger something for another contributor to post.

As shown above, the right answer was form over a few different posts. That's the nature of the beast.

Yep - all of us here are just regular old end users, the same as your self - even us staffers. Ain't none of us get it right every time -I know I make my share of boneheaded suggestions.

(Am old enough to admit that now. Wouldn't have done that a mere 20-30 years ago.)

As a person who doesn't use the accessibility function and has never enabled it (as I assume the vast majority of iOS users), I didn't know there was a double tap function to open an application..

Had the OP indicated that the accessibility functionality was enabled in the initial post, I would've looked into it and perhaps made a different suggestion..
