When trying to sync with iPhone, iTunes shows OLD (deleted) iCal calenders

When the sync screen is open in iTunes, where you choose which contacts/calenders/etc. you wish to sync, the list of calenders only displays old iCal calenders which i have since deleted. When i sync, the iPhone then displays no events (as these old calenders were emptied and deleted).

found this page with the same problem, but none of the solutions provided have worked for me.

Fixed; backed up individual iCal calenders, deleted cache from "/Library/Caches" & "~/Library/Caches", old Calenders plus 2 random new calenders (home, study) were then in iCal, deleted said new calenders, then imported original calenders back into iCal.
