First up, sorry for having a Windows PC :) , but I needed something to play blu-rays on that didn't cost the earth. Anyway, on to the request.

I have an iMac which is the central computer for the house, everything streams from it. I had to get my ISP to give me some tech support yesterday, which involved them taking it over remotely for a moment.

Anyway, afterwards, I went downstairs to the media PC and nothing was streaming any more. I tried a few things and nothing worked, then I checked online and saw a program called SMBUp. So I tried that, and it seemed to make things worse - now, the iMac wasn't showing up on the Network section of Windows Explorer at all and things still weren't sharing.

So, is there a solution to this? I'm okay with the command line but not great, and if I have to I don't mind doing a complete reset of the Mac (there's not a lot on it).

Open up:
System Preferences > Sharing
What do you have enabled? Specifically, you should have File Sharing enabled, with a list of shared folders on the right that you want your media PC to have access to. Under Options, you should also be sharing using SMB rather than AFP.

Thanks for the tip - here's a bit more information.

It's an iMac with a 3.06Hz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, running 10.7.5.

File sharing is enabled, but it's just not showing up on the Windows list of network devices.

I'm completely drawing a blank as to what the problem might be.

Did they do anything to your router?

They changed one setting, to do with the radio.

Anyway, I followed the instructions on this old Lifehacker page - How to access a Mac's files on your PC - and can see the **** files on my PC! But I don't particularly want to have to mess with that every single time I want to use the media PC (and it renders XBMC next to useless).

I appreciate the help (again) but boy, is this confusing.

Oh, there's an old instance of EyeConnect running too (according to every other PC in the house) but I can't find any files to delete or any way of uninstalling it.
